Smocky Placemats: Crochet pattern

These placemats are worked with the interesting but easy, textured smock stitch. They are worked in the round - double-ended Tunisian crochet hook required! Because the forward and return passes are worked with separate balls of yarn, all of my Tunisian ovals allow  you to have contrasting foreground and background colours, providing endless opportunies for beautiful colour combinations and textures. Virtually any cotton yarn can be used, from fingering to worsted weight. There are links to instructional videos if you are new to smock stitch.
